Mini Book Making Workshop (Librarians Club x Art Club)

Background of the guest:
Miniature books, also known as micro books (まめほん まめほん in Japanese), are palm-sized books that serve as a form of book art. Tiana Wong, an iconic and influential book artist based in Hong Kong, traveled to Japan to learn the production of these mini-books when she was young. Since her return, she has promoted this form of artwork in Hong Kong through various means, such as organizing miniature book fairs and holding book-making workshops for children.

On 28 April 2023, we invited Tiana Wong to hold a Miniature Book Workshop at our school to share her learning journey in Japan and the joy of bookmaking. The workshop aimed to broaden students’ horizons and boost their interest in book production. During the workshop, students had the opportunity to appreciate Tiana’s masterpieces and learn the differences between making Chinese and Western books. They were exposed to various techniques, ranging from paper selection to trimming, in order to meticulously tailor-make their own miniature books. All students thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and found it educational.
