Beyond the Screen: A Journey of Dreams, Grit, and Homecoming

On 4th May 2026, the entire St. Clare’s community traded the classroom for the cinema for a landmark event in our Clarian Growth Programme. All S.1 to S.5 students and teachers attended a special screening of the critically acclaimed film Ciao UFO (《再見UFO》).

This wasn’t just a trip to the movies; it was a cornerstone of our commitment to whole-person education, designed to spark deep reflections on the core values of Perseverance and Confidence.

A Cinematic Triumph

Ciao UFO is a masterpiece of local storytelling. The film reached a historic milestone at the 44th Hong Kong Film Awards, sweeping five major honors:

🏆 Best Film | Best Director | Best Screenplay | Best Original Film Song | Best Supporting Actress

Set against the nostalgic backdrop of Wah Fu Estate in the 80s, the film explores profound themes of friendship, memory, and life choices.  It reminds our students that while growing up involves inevitable challenges, we find our path by staying true to our aspirations and facing reality with courage.

A Special Homecoming: Dialogue with Ms. Amy Chin

The highlight of the event was a post-screening sharing session with the film’s celebrated screenwriter and distinguished Clarian alumna, Ms. Amy Chin (錢小蕙).

Ms. Chin’s achievements bring immense honour to our school.  As a creative leader, she serves as a powerful role model of excellence, resilience, and cultural contribution.  During the “Intergenerational Dialogue,” she shared personal insights with our student representatives—Cammie, Iris, and Sophie—about the tension between “Dreaming” and “Reality.”

“The UFO represents hope and the unknown. It’s about that longing for something beautiful in the future.” — Ms. Amy Chin

Key Insights from the Interview:

  • Rational Dreaming: Ms. Chin encouraged students to analyze reality while maintaining their “original heart” (初心).
  • The Weight of Choice: Students debated the paths of the film’s protagonists, discussing whether choosing stability over dreams is “growth” or “compromise.”
  • Authentic Communication: Ms. Chin shared advice on how to bridge the gap with parents when career aspirations differ, suggesting a balance of emotional honesty and rational facts.

🎬 Learning Beyond the Classroom

This programme exemplifies our belief that education happens everywhere—not just in textbooks, but through authentic experiences that broaden perspectives. By connecting students with a successful alumna and a story that mirrors their own struggles, we aim to:

  • Deepen Reflection: Moving beyond the surface to understand the “tension” between ideals and survival.
  • Inspire Passion: Encouraging students to pursue their interests with the same determination shown by Ms. Chin.
  • Plant Seeds for the Future: Cultivating the self-discovery and resilience needed to become thoughtful individuals.

We are proud of our students’ engagement and look forward to seeing them apply these lessons of perseverance and confidence to their own unique life journeys.
